It’s almost certainly a 2-way deal.
A standard contract would mean going into the luxury tax. We’re only 1.7m under the tax line. As a 3rd-year player, he would cost us 2.5m on a minimum deal. Which means we then have to make a salary-cutting trade mid-year to get back under.
However, he doesn’t count against the cap/tax as a 2-way.
We would be a pretty attractive 2-way option given all the success stories we’ve had (eg. Queta, Hauser, Harper Jr).
We also generally keep that 15th roster spot free for the best performing 2-way guy, so he’s got a real chance of making the roster this season.
Although with Dillon Mitchell, Amari Williams and Devin Carter there’s a lot of competition for that 15th roster spot.
As a Kings fan he will thrive under Joe. Devin ruined himself cause of bad mentality + that shoulder injury and the Celtics can correct that
If he plays under Joes system you will see a good rebounder and good defender + he’s pretty quick. But his offense is really bad. He will thrive with you guys I know it.

In college he reminded me quite a bit of Derrick White, actually. I’d love to see him around. Long guard, good defensive instincts, streaky shooter but can get hot. I don’t think he’ll ever live up to his lottery pick pedigree but could eventually become a plus role player with the right development and minutes

I like him a lot. Liked him a lot predraft. He’s had somewhat bad injury luck but is a good shoot/pass/dribble combo guard with a knack for rebounding at his size.

Absolutely electric in college where his athleticism, defense, rebounding got him Big East POY. Knack for a big play and hit some big shots. Still not sure his offense translates to the league. He’s not afraid to shoot from distance but his form looks weird to me. Maybe he can post up a bit like Brunson?
Reminds me of Hugo a bit. Menace on D and in transition. Fast. High bbiq. Fun piece for the right price, needs to stay healthy, and mostly just glad he’s out of Sacramento.

I had my eyes on Bruce Brown if we were looking at filling #15, but this is interesting too.
This will be for the final 2-way spot most likely.
We generally keep the 15th spot free if we’re right up against a cap/tax threshold, and then we sign someone super cheap at the end of season (usually promoting a 2-way guy).
Bruce Brown is unfortunately too expensive atm, even on a vet min.

I feel like this roster needs another guard im not a fan of depending on 40 year old Conley every game. I don’t think he got a fair shake with the incompetent kings. I know this sub has been obsessing over the apron and tax penalties but I’m not comfortable with our guard rotation and wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Carter, low risk high reward
Do not discount the end of bench, probable future coach, vet. I love having Conley here.
Conley is a much better player than him currently. Not even close.
