The JB trade was inevitable. The return was rough, but who do you blame for that? That was the market and he needed to be moved. We all agreed with the contract at the time and would do it again to win a ring.

Getting rid of JB was a bad win-now move, but a fantastic long-term financial move, which will keep a good team around for longer. When the 6ers are in 3 years of cap hell and still haven’t reached the ECF, you’ll see lol

Well the results are in, the fanbase is not on board with the idea that Brad made a mistake. I think this poll should work as a lesson that how you feel about a trade isn’t necessarily what the average fan thinks.

George will be a positive addition and fill his role nicely. Conley will get a little more run than most people are expecting. Robinson was a great pickup.

This can’t be fully answered until we see what we do with George’s contract next year.

I think we’re going to be competing for the division, will have a very strong regular season, and the playoffs is a crapshoot.

Everything will depend on chemistry this year. If we move the ball like we did a couple years ago, we’ll be golden.

I remain faithful that Brad has a better feel for pulse of the roster than every reactionary fan in this sub.

This season will reaffirm why Brad is one of the smartest minds in basketball. We have a combination of elite turnover suppressors and elite offensive rebounders that is going to propel this team to a 5th straight top 3 seed. It sucks to see JB leave the way he did, and he’ll always be a Celtics legend, but anyone watching the games with a critical eye can see how he was a subpar fit for the system.

The league is evolving, and we are moving past strict 3pt and shooting efficiency into maximizing raw possessions - a player like JB who self creates at an elite to borderline elite rate, but does not help or actively hurts the possession battle on both sides of the ball, simple wasn’t worth $55+ million to the Celtics. We’re looking at the next 4 years of Tatums prime and how to maximize that window, which would have been nearly impossible to do with 2 players eating up so much cap through their age ³⁴⁄₃₅ seasons.

I trust Brad on basketball knowledge way more than my own eye. I loved JB, but understand with new CBA/2nd apron rules, we likely weren’t getting back to the top with JB and JT and status quo.

The reaction from a lot of the fanbase about the trade has been weird to see. As if brad opted to take a worse return and send him to philly just cause. Obviously that was the best offer available and we obviously were not going to extend him, and that’s the only way he would’ve been happy playing next season.

So we had to trade him now, his value should’ve been at his highest since 2024, market is what it is. He’s pushing 30, his contract is massive, and his analytics are mixed.

I don’t think brad made a mistake at all.

Trading for giannis would’ve been a massive overpay for a player who has too high an injury risk to warrant giving up draft capital and all our young talent/cheap contracts. I’m just not betting all of that on giannis staying healthy for a playoff run, when we haven’t seen tatum go through a full season post-achilles tear.

Then with JB, as i mentioned, only way he was staying and happy is if we gave him the extension, which means it’ll be basically impossible to put a roster together.

People upset are looking at this wayy too short term. Like i’d rather have cenac for 10 years than giannis for 2, and i’d rather lose JB now than have to pay him 70 per year or give him the extension and then have to try and trade him for even less value when he’s older and also more expensive.

Like really think about this, if you’re a fan mad at brad, you’re agreeing with kendrick perkins who says paul george has to save brad’s job. Like that’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of what PG is here for, if he plays well that’s a bonus of course, but he’s just a trade asset for matching money so we can make a big trade without losing anything except PG and picks.

Who is we? I don’t think he made a mistake. I think he took a bad situation and did what he could with it. They weren’t going to offer extension and from there JBs value would drop. He got what he could and now we will see Tatum go off.

You have to trust Brad for what he’s done as a GM. Getting the GM position after Danny Ainge is really tough, but he was able to win a Championship in 2024, won the eastern conference in 2022. Hired 2 high level head coaches and managed to build a cohesive roster with 2 players taking over 100m in payroll while staying under the second apron.

The JB trade sucks but it’s not about this or next season. That trade is about it 2 seasons from now when JB is getting super max money in his 30’s.

Brad is the best GM in the league lol. I could rattle off like 50 stats of why this trade was smart, and so could Brad. He’s just not going to do it publicly. You have to read into what he says because he covers everything in midwestern politeness and GM speak, but Brad almost never just openly says “I really like this team” and yet he did unprompted twice yesterday. Brad knows he built a juggernaut, and you guys will find out soon enough.

At this point if you’re still upset over the brown trade, you’re just a baby who is uneducated.

Brad strikes me as someone who doesn’t let his emotions get in the way of his decision making.

He made a longterm view move so how would anyone know it’s a mistake.

It’s like hating DA for trading the Big 3. Even after getting the Nets picks, we still didn’t know where it would land. It’s like people freaking out DA chose JT over Fultz and even Josh Jackson(!!), or booing JB on Draft day.

It’s like seeing last offseason’s squad and thinking we’d be play-in at best and when things turned better saying “no one saw this coming”.

And the endless list goes on and on…

Not comparing the value and impact of every situation, but one thing is constant – a lot of fans overreact due to uncertainty. Fans love using hindsight in arguments but refuse to have patience in foresight.

Brad is challenging Red in all-league GOAT status. The JB trade was justified, you’ll see.

I think PG is going to surprise folks. We’re going to be a lot more competitive than anybody thinks. And we’ll have six first-rounders available to throw at a superstar if one becomes available next off-season because there’s no way that PG is declining a player option like that.

Worst GM in franchise history.

It’s very hard to trust Brad right now. If the offseason had stopped at the Robinson and Conley signings, I’d have been fairly content with that.

But dumping Jaylen is a fucking disaster. Both from a purely basketball perspective, as well as from an organizational perspective. If doing so was a Chisholm decision that Brad had to go along with, then Brad doesn’t have final say, and that’s a problem. It means that the on-court team is very much dictated by the whims of private equity vultures who exist only to extract financial value of the thing they own.

If, on the other hand, dumping Jaylen was a Brad decision, then that fundamentally undermines my confidence in him as a team builder and basketball mind. Either way, this offseason does not bode well for the foreseeable future of the Celtics, nor for the remainder of Tatum’s time here.

Brads gotta go, I hate the entire philosophy of this team.

He had a good offseason. I couldn’t trust anyone more than Brad. So happy he’s our GM.

He has one weakness, a favoritism can cause him to make decisions that are bad for the team. As a coach it was Hayward, now its Tatum. Still just one mistake, a big one, but still just one mistake.

But ask me again in Feb, and again in 2 years when I’ll have the benefit of hindsight. I’m definitely not a basketball genius and very open to being proven wrong.

Still haven’t gotten over the trade..however I do feel we will somehow reap the benefits, eventually. Time will tell.

If ownership wasn’t going to pay JB then getting another player of PGs ability(if healthy/not suspended) that allows them to reset their salary structure after this year plus 2 firsts is actually a good return. You get a very solid Robin for JT, something JB didn’t have last year on the way to 56 wins. You’d think with PG and Robinson added that JT can get team to at least 56 wins this year. Now, if Brad traded JB because HE thought JB was only 7th best Celtic last year…

I have said that I think a good season is the ECF and anything beyond that is a great season. I will stop trusting him when he gives us a couple Octobers in a row where I think we have no shot at the ECF and that pans out throughout the season.

Last year I thought no way in hell, but that changed as the season went on. This season a lot needs to go right, but he has faith those things will go right so do I.

JB had to go with the new salary cap / aprons / taxes system the NBA is implementing. For this reason amongst others he had to go.and nobody wanted him. Don’t blame Brad

He keeps mazzulla around and he failed to land the Greek. I’ve never been as impressed as the rest of you. He has 1 title during his entire NBA career. I don’t know what you people are looking at to simp as hard as you do, but winning regular season games doesn’t really mean shit. Making the playoffs, going to cf, losing in the finals is all well and good if you’re the fucking Timberwolves. The reasoning for the JB trade makes sense, Brad was right to do it. But you’ll never feel good about trading an All-NBA, homegrown, MVP candidate in his prime. The return sucks but sucked more because teams knew how desperate Brad was to move him.

But the moves also around the trade, like getting Mitch I think overall make the team better and better positioned to take advantage of JT’s prime.

So emotionally? Yeah it sucks. Practically, I get it. That we got a title with him softens it slightly.

I’m still largely In Brad we trust, he’s built up that much goodwill with me, but I am also a little bit trust brad but annoyed with the trade. Adding Mitch, I assumed they were keeping everyone and I liked our chances. Now? I still like our chances, except there’s a lot more “if’s”. I really like George as an addition, still a really good 3+D guy, IF he can play 60 games or close to it, Mitchell same thing. those guys are reasonably healthy, team will be really good. Brad’s bad decisions is exactly why the team fell apart in 2019. Could’ve been a dynasty. Anybody who disagrees actively didn’t watch a minute of the team then.

I’m going to give him some time to see how it shakes out. It’s hard to feel like these are entirely his decisions and ownership isn’t tipping the scale for financial reasons.

I don’t think all things being equal, Steven’s trades Brown, I think the push to do that came from above him.

Now maybe I’ve got it wrong and this looks great in 2-3 years, but I could also see a scenario where Brad gets burnt out by ownership financial inflexibility and just doesn’t want the job anymore.

He did a great job when the constraints weren’t there as much. If this is an ownership group who’s always looking at the bottom line, it’s going to make his job a lot harder, and the team won’t ever be as good.

I no longer trust him. I strongly suspect he’s going to be coaching in college basketball in a year or two

I’m favor of the trade but the return sucks. He’s a walking meme at this point of his career and should’ve settled for the Giannis trade instead. Idc about trading Hugo and Baylor in return but I’d do it than getting Pandemic P.

He’s mid.  Most of our success came from Ainge.  Brad really choked the brown trade
