I hadn’t seen a thread or any discussion regarding ESPN’s future power rankings, which look at each team over the next three years based on the following categories:

Players, Management, Draft, $, & Market

As you will see last year, the Celtics were 14th because of the JT injury but this year there third behind OKC and the Spurs and as you will see they point out something that I think a lot of Celtics fans take for granted, which is that over the last five years, we are the only team with 50 regular season wins each year and are offensive reading over those five years has never been below six and the defensive rating has never been below fourth

The one part that I do disagree with is in the final section, as I believe at least PP, Queta, or Walsh will still be on the Celts roster in addition to JT in 28-29 season

Playmaking will be the key difference, Tatum is in another universe in terms of running an offense and how much defensive attention he demands.

JB had a great year and ran the offense well. If JT plays that well this year, which he’s certainly capable of and more, and then we have PG and Mitch on top of that. We’re going to be really good. Plus Hugo hopefully improves and Dwhite bounces back efficiency wise. No need to slander JB for carrying this team last year.

I hate to say it but I don’t think our system was ever designed for Jaylen brown. I do think pg is a far better fit, despite being older, broken down and a pretty grim trade off…

We might be good. I don’t know. I hope so but I’m not personally optimistic.

Comparing this season to last year, you can look at it as if we replaced JB with Tatum, and added pieces along with additional development from the young guys. It’s hard for me to believe we won’t be at least as good as last season.

The Celtics leaned hard minutes wise on White, Pritchard and Brown as all three finished in the top 22 in minutes played. It may not be wise to do that with Tatum and White didn’t benefit from it.

The plan is obviously to make a big trade next offseason with PGs contract. Whether it’s Jokic, Ant, Curry or somebody more underwhelming like Mobley or Devin Booker.

After next offseason once we reset the tax and get a big trade I think we are title contenders again.

Just had a emotional roller coaster about the Clippers pick after reading the rules. It can’t be top 5 three years In a row - I thought it was 2 - so this years lotto could only lock us out of repeat #1. Luckily Keaton Wagler was the Pacer pick; Clippers pick was Mara and not top 5.

I can totally see the Celtics over the Sixers because we’re talking about the next three years LeBron and Joel and potentially Brown if they don’t give him the extension, he wants may all be gone, but they’ll be good enough where they won’t have high draft picks not to mention they don’t have the young depth that we have.

They have a young star, but really no depth behind that and VJ will be pretty good too, but this is looking at like player development, draft picks

However, the jazz is a little bit more of a head scratcher I will admit

I think the Jazz management, draft assets, coach and ownership are all on par with the Celtics or better, and for players/talent the Celtics obviously lead with Tatum but the Jazz probably have like 2 - 6 or something for players looking forward. Might be a bit of a hot take tbh lol but I think the Jazz are better suited to the next 5 - 10 years than the Celtics all things considered.

Edit: I just realized you were agreeing on the Jazz lol. I think the sixers are better cuz they are legit contenders / potentially favs, and the Celtics are fake contenders unless they get a 2nd star imo. But yeah def closer

Yeah, I was agreeing with you on the jazz but on the Sixers since this is a future power rankings over the following three years I think it makes sense that there are one or two spots behind the Celtics if it was just the power ranking for this year, then obviously they should be flipped. I just don’t trust that Embiid and LeBron are gonna have much left by year three and I’m skeptical they’re gonna offer J.B. the extension he wants.
