Way too many Map nodes in the way of completing quests
I just came back to the game after a 1.5‑year break, and the new Atlas and map tree system feels rough. Since Atlas points are tied to your map now, the number of nodes you have to clear ridiculously high. The atlas tree is huge, so the map grind to finish main or side quests has become pretty brutal. I love grinding, but this one gets tedious fast.
From what I can tell there are 2 approaches you can take; run lowbie maps, do the bare minimum to complete the map, and try to sprint through the map to each quest boss as quickly as possible. This is not fun. Exploring side map nodes outside of the beeline to the main quest objective also feels pointless when every quest step is miles away. And yeah, I know you need those nodes for the Atlas tree, but that’s part of the problem…. The sheer number of nodes you have to clear is wild. It feels like a Korean MMO grind.
Has GGG said anything about reducing the number of map nodes for launch? I can’t imagine doing this every league. When the most efficient way to play is to literally not play and complete maps as quickly as possible, that feels like a major flaw in end game mechanics.
