I got tired of swapping every item into PoB just to see if it was actually an upgrade
Can i afford it? No its not an upgrade. Does it cost a few mirrors? Yea probably a 5% dmg boost
Yep 😄“Can I afford it?” - absolutely not.“Is it an upgrade?” - technically, yes.“Is +5% damage worth selling my house for?”, probably not. That’s exactly why I want to add budget/value context later, not just “is this better?”, but “is this actually worth buying?”
when upgrades cost mirrors not div your gearing is done. Grind to 100, kill all the pinnacles, gring a couple hundred div and start a new toon
Yea i also believe in that. I guess its purely a showoff or to craft best weapon in game. But in the end when its so close. And its only a few lil numbers off next to another weapon and they keep going. Like this diminishing returns. Only the “value” of theres only 1-2 in game. But also if you can, just do it because f why not. But im not that person in this haha
Totally relatable. My build needs a 50div investment to get 12% damage boost
I remember your first post and was very excited by the idea. I’m glad you pushed forward with it.
I’m curious how this accounts for things like weapon swaps and weapon skill trees. Also, if its calculations are based on PoB, how does it handle all the many things in PoE2 that are not yet supported in PoB (tons of mods and passives)?
Glad you remember it 😄 And yeah, that’s one of the trickier parts.
ExileLens uses PoB as the calculation engine, so weapon swaps / weapon-specific setups are evaluated in the context of the build state PoB exposes. I’m still expanding coverage around weapon sets and some of the more unusual interactions.
For things PoB itself doesn’t support, ExileLens can’t magically calculate them either. The approach I’m taking is to be conservative there, if I can’t evaluate something reliably, I’d much rather show UNCERTAIN / unsupported than confidently tell you an item is an upgrade when it isn’t.
That part is actually a pretty big focus of the project right now: increasing real-build coverage without sacrificing that safety.
and some of the more unusual interactions
Haha this is exactly why you asked because my main build for .5.5 was made around the weird interactions with weapon swaps and the Voltaic Barrier skill. I have zero clue how to evaluate upgrades for that build (at least, offensively, defensive should still be fairly straight forward) so it would be interesting to see what the tool recommends. If you need a weird test case, I can send you my PoB haha.
Haha please do 😄 That actually sounds like a perfect torture test for it.
Weapon swaps + Voltaic Barrier is exactly the kind of weird real-world setup I need to throw at the evaluator. Send me the PoB and I’ll add it to the test cases, I’m genuinely curious what ExileLens does with it too.
I’m curious how this accounts for things like weapon swaps and weapon skill trees
PoB has proper support for weapon sets on the beta branch. Though sadly GGG doesn’t, so if you import a build it doesn’t actually set weapon sets properly.
This is amazing. Most of the huge upgrades I found are like 10c vs what the build guide suggested that costs 10d because everyone is looking for the same thing but everyone’s build is also slightly different and one stat can change the pricing drastically.
Exactly, that’s one of the things I find most interesting about it.Build guides tend to push everyone toward the same “ideal” items, which can make certain mod combinations insanely expensive. But once you look at your actual build state, a much cheaper item can sometimes give you almost the same gain, or even a bigger one. That’s a big part of what I want ExileLens to help with: finding upgrades for your build, not just copying the same shopping list as everyone else 😄
It’s true, build guides can really narrow your options and inflate prices. Finding those hidden gems that synergize with your gear can make a huge difference without breaking the bank.
Is there a way to compare the dps of what your wearing to whats in the trade? Im not sure if its an upgrade anymore
Not directly from the trade site yet. Right now ExileLens compares items you can copy from the game/ ingame trade against what you’re currently wearing using your PoB build.Comparing web trade listings before you buy them is definitely something I want to support later though, that would save a ton of time.
Have you been able to implement the Martial Artist perk Way of the Stonefist?
Not yet, thanks for flagging that one.Way of the Stonefist is a bit of a special case since it transforms the glove base and its explicit modifiers while equipped, so I want to properly test it against PoB before claiming support. If you can send me your PoB and an example pair of gloves, that would be really useful for adding it as a proper test case.
This is just beautiful, a tool that every other arpg has built in, but seems more in-depth. Thank you op, may Atziri’s treasures pour down on you
Haha, thank you 😄If Atziri’s treasures do start pouring down, I’m taking full credit for the RNG.Really glad you like the idea, I’m trying to keep it simple on the surface, but let it go pretty deep when you actually want to understand why an item is better.
I’ll def try this out. Awesome work
Thank you! 😄 Let me know how it goes when you try it, especially if you find anything weird.
Very nice!
Thanks! 😄 Really appreciate it.
Does this also work with weapons? Because that is what I mostly need to use PoB for.
Yep 😄 Weapons are supported too, that’s actually one of the main use cases.
There are still a few edge cases around weapon sets / offhands that I’m expanding coverage for, but normal weapon comparisons work against your current PoB build.
Nice, I’ll check it out!
I will check this out tonight. This looks promising.
Once I get to yellow maps and beyond, I find that I’m constantly adding items to POB just to see if it helps with EHP or damage.
So if this does something similar, then that is a huge time saver.
Thanks for doing this, can’t wait to try it later
That’s pretty much exactly the use case I built it for 😄I was doing the same thing, constantly throwing items into PoB just to check whether they were actually better.Hopefully it saves you a bunch of that back-and-forth. If anything looks off when you try it, send it my way, those cases are super useful for improving it.
Nice, I am bookmarking this to try later when I get home.
I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:
PoB - Path of Building, an external tool used to simulate and plan character builds
I am a bot. | All acronyms | Suggest
nice
i tried it, works very well, but would appreciate a tutorial for setting it up on the discord and/or the git in a more “in your face” area, took me a while to set it up and allthat aside, i know it’d be a bitch but this would really reach peak once you can on the fly check items on the trade website rather than ingame only on hover
great work, if GGG doesn’t implement this themselves, i can see this becoming a must-have tool for everyone real soon
I’m a little bit tech savvy and still am having trouble finding my PoB installation path. Kinda annoying, but I’ll have to spend time later on it
Adding new comment…
it is really good! I tested on 20-25 items with POB imports and it was pretty spot on. Also the choices of Balanced / mapping / whatever did make a bit of difference from waht i could tell.
Two questions:
not a big deal cuz its just a couple clicks but just making sure…
does it support controller ?
👏👏👏👏👏
My build is somewhat decent that it can survive any juiced maps even GE nad 200℅ deli. But the moment I joined a 6 man party where the monsters are scaled high, that’s where my build goes to shit.
Are you working on a PoE1 version by chance? Ik I’m in the 2 subreddit but this looks sooo cool
good idea ill download later :)
Have you tried the trader functionality in PoB? It is essentially this, except you paste in a link and it tests the first 20-100 items
Oh and you need to set the gold amount to 1 every single time, otherwise it’s flooded with fake 1exalt items to manipulate pricing
