Agreed. I think it’s a good choice. Cora is a good manager but Red Sox run this year isn’t great for his rep.

He had some absolutely garbage rosters when he was with us. When your aces are guys like Andrew Cashner and Clayton Richard you aren’t going to win a whole lot of games
He lost a ton of talent a month into the job and still has them playing .500 ball. Mendoza had that same initial group 14 games under .500
Well Lindor missed 2 months during the Mendoza part and Soto missed 3 weeks too.

There were two or three prominent articles about how adamant he was that this was just an interim role for him, and that he preferred the front office role when it came to being a family man. Mets have been solid under his leadership and I’m sure he’s come to really enjoy the job, but I also wonder now if some part of his initial stance was just for leverage. Maybe that’s too cynical
I think he got a taste of fuck you money and his family is like yeah we’ll be ok on road trips.
That would make a lot of sense as well. Trading three years for a lifetime of security is a pretty fair deal, I imagine this brings a significant pay bump from his front office role
I’m curious if the clubhouse side is still kid focused like 2-3 years ago. I remember Winker coming back and saying having such a kid access was a reason he liked it in New York.
So maybe that’s a factor too?
His youngest are seniors in HS, Chelsea Janes talked about in her article how the lockout probably helped him decide to take the job since he’ll still be around for most of their senior year.

I doubt it, honestly. I think (a) he expected the team to do poorly and not be offered an extension and (b) that’s the easiest way to get the media to stop asking you about it.
He seems like a no nonsense type of guy, which seems like the type of guy this team needs to tune out media and fan noise.
There was always some level of non-commitment in terms of “things could change”. Maybe once he got back into the gig he really enjoyed it. Pay is probably significantly better for sure though.
Baseball guys love being around the game and in the clubhouse. I wouldn’t be surprised if spending time with the group, have them react positively, and seeing the veteran and rookie personalities mesh just motivated him to reconsider. There has been a lot said about the fact he has been working with the younger players for a few years and it’s a big reason the team found its footing.

They don’t clash, Soto is just a nerd and Lindor is a peacock and there’s no chemistry there. It will be fine when they win.

He has done a decent job. He has 1 more win than Mendoza had in 13 less games.
And it was also after a fire sale and missing Soto for half of those games or so. I like him, excited for him to run the squad.
Well earned in my opinion. He came in and did a pretty good job of stabilizing the team from what I’ve seen.
I really like this guy. This team is about to be re-oriented around our young talent and he seems to handle them really well. Just seems like a good fit for this team in this moment. I approve of this move.

One thing that I’ve liked about Andy Green is that he is willing to publicly challenge his guys to reach another gear and be great. Not sure I ever remember Mendoza doing that.
This is a tremendous hire for a few reasons, he’s handled the job so far with class and openness, but chiefly he is very familiar with the talent pipeline and is not afraid to challenge these kids while also being supportive.
For the place we’re at, which is building our new core, he’s the right hire at the right moment.
I feel like also a new face wouldnt fair well after having a bunch of new faces came in this year (players and coaches) and underperform.. if bichette doesnt opt out we will basically have the same squad playing next year.
I think we’ll definitely see some changes at 2B where Semien will probably find himself coming off the bench and DHing and first where a RHed bat to platoon with Young will get some time.

Makes sense. Braves did this exact same thing with Snitker, who was closely working with the young players in the minors. Green is the perfect person right now to lead this team and help develop the young talent on the team, especially when we will have a ton of them on the roster next season, between Benge, Ewing, McLean, Scott, Thornton and possible Rojas, and Tong.
If the players like him then you probably aren’t finding better. Good for him
This is a really great move! He know the system inside and out and seems to handle the rookies really well. There has been a noticeable improvement both in the clubhouse and on the feild since he has taken over and he deserves credit.
However the pressure was off and next year is a whole different ballgame..

While post game pressers are not nearly enough to gauge how a manager truly acts with his players, he comes off as being very player-development focused (not surprising, considering his role in the front office before being the interim). When talking about the young players, he’d give them their flowers while always being sure to publicly challenge them to grow in future games. It was a breath of fresh air from Mendoza in that regard at least

Wow!! Obviously surprising. Very happy with this as a team trying to focus on youth and development, much like the Brewers when Sterns was not the most hated man in town. Feeling optimistic.

Because you’re about to get youthanized and Andy has proven pretty good at dealing with young players.
Looking forward to him getting fired at the end of may two years from now. He hasn’t done anything with this roster that can’t be attributed to the superstars being healthy and available.
