Cubs not planning to place Alex Bregman on injured list
There is no point in putting him on the IL with expanded rosters. The true test is if he makes it on the playoff roster.
Yeah we have a player on our roster right now whose last at-bat was on September 6, it’s not really playing down a player

I had a similar injury my freshman year of high school (probably a little more severe, it was a flyball that was smoked vs a check swing foul ball) that knocked me out for the entire season so this is kind of crazy from that perspective lol.
Granted I was not receiving world class medical attention and was less important to my freshman year baseball team than breggy is to the cubs, but still
I’ve heard of people coming back from this injury in 3-4 weeks but never one week lol
My friend missed a fly ball in high school that smacked him right in the eye (he played CF). He didn’t miss any time
I do think it is one of those things where it can look like the exact same injury but have drastically different timetables. My eye opened back up fairly quickly but I had a bunch of optic nerve damage so I had double vision in it for like 4 months (obviously can’t be out there with that, I couldn’t catch the ball when I was only seeing one of em)
So if I had avoided that it would’ve cut like 80% of the recovery time
Yeah but like a fly ball in the outfield in high school is hard to compare to a hard foul liner from Major Leaguer

I was being a little more glass half full and saying I got to the spot on a ball smoked in the gap then just lost it in the giant stadium lights because we were playing at a minor league field
Same injury happened to me. Was 3-4 weeks for full depth perception back. And that was with no fractures.
I can’t imagine any flyball being a worse shot than what Bregman got
He may have haters but you can’t question this toughness

I can’t be the only one that highly doubts he returns at all this year let alone in a week. I get that he can wear the extra mask with the helmet and everything but it will all come down to his vision. And if he’s in the field, one bad hop could be devastating.
I’m guessing if he comes back he will DH. We have decent enough cover at 3B to make it work

I smoked a ball right off the bat straight into my girlfriend’s face, who was pitching to me. She looked a little worse than Bregman, but she was fine after about two weeks. I don’t think him coming back is impossible
He’s not back, this is just procedural stuff. We already have an extra IF as-is, Arias is just gonna get cut from the postseason roster when Bregman is ready, and there’s nobody already on the 40 man that we’d want to bring up anyway - BJ Murray and James Triantos are the only 40’d IFs and they’re both bat first guys who hit worse than pitchers in brief MLB opportunities.

Seems like too big a risk for him to play. It’s not even just the risk that he’s hit again, but rough movements such as running, sliding, fielding, and even celebrating can complicate bone fractures.
Any other time of the year, and he would be on the DL for months, until testing the idea of him making a postseason return. I’m not a doctor, but I think it’s be too soon.
