I’ve been thrilled to have another vector to cheer against LA teams so this one stings but also par for the course.

I’m have a 1.5 year old daughter, my first kid. I’ve been wondering why softball exists for women but not baseball. Same with women’s lacrosse, which is a joke. It’s a different sport. I’m glad this exists now so she can play baseball if she wants to. The idea that women couldn’t handle fast pitch, or whatever made softball take off for women, is infuriating to me. Pumped on this league!

I mean, the Queens have won 100% of their championships. The Dodgers have only won 7.4% of the World Series. What schmucks! /s

to be fair that’s probably mostly because all of the games were played in Springfield, IL this year, and next year they’re supposed to begin playing in their respective markets. still it sounds fun, where was it available to watch this season?

problem is thats college season where many of these players come from, also there is the finals next year of both softball and baseball world where they also sourced many players from.

Oh I realize. It’s just by the time it crossed my consciousness we were already in the playoffs.

Disagree I think pitching suffered because it is the hardest of the three (batting, defense) to transfer from softball.

That’s a bit of an unfair assessment - keep in mind that girls get streamed out of baseball when they’re in their early teens, so they haven’t had the decade-plus of institutional pitching training that boys get from the time they’re children up through college and beyond.

Hell, the most advanced professional development these ladies have gone through is probably the few of them that were in Savannah Bananas for the past few years (and, it should be noted, those ex-Banana players are the ones who are considered some of the strongest players in the league now - eg. Benites, Whitmore, Lansdell, Davis, etc. Imagine if everyone in the league had that kind of development for even a single year…). Everyone else either grinded it out in D-tier indy ball leagues like the CBL for however long they could, or simply hadn’t played in years bc there was nowhere else for them to go after high school or college. A lot of them were working regular 9-5s when the call went out for tryouts, and they decided to give the dream a shot.

Give it some time. I imagine it’ll follow much the same trajectory as the WNBA, where the talent is okay to start, and then 10-15 years in it jumps up quite a bit bc the women who were girls when the league started have been training for their childhoods to try to make it into the league, and then in another 10-15 years after that, the cohort of women who’ve never known a world without the WPBL will come in having trained their whole lives for this. With that cohort will come development leagues, investments, all the bells and whistles.
